In a speech closing a working meeting at the government palace in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday (22/02), President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed the three main priorities that should run the government in the acceleration and expansion of economic development of Indonesia.

As quoted from the official website of the President, the three priorities are:

First: surplus of at least 10 million tonnes per year within the next 5-10 years. This is to meet government targets in achieving self-sufficiency in rice by a number of programs. These programs include opening new lands formerly abandoned land, food estate with a scheme to realize the plasma and the core, seeds and fertilizers, irrigation and embung, planting techniques and extension services, pest opponent’s movements, research and development, innovation, studies and cooperation with China.
